What is it? =========== There are two archives for MS Windows 64 bit installation (MS Windows NT 4.0 and later--NOT Windows 9x-Windows ME), an executable installer and a ZIP archive of all files. The installer will likely be favored by end users and the ZIP archive for program authors bundling Hamlib with their program. W64 executable installer ========================== The W64 installer provides a GUI to select a choice of DLLs only, DLLs with programs, DLLs with development files, or all files and the installation directory for Hamlib. In the future it may provide an option to edit the PATH and removal of Hamlib. W64 binary ZIP archive ======================== The ZIP archive contains the Hamlib shared libraries compiled as DLL files for W64 as well as the Hamlib utilities compiled as W64 executables. Current information is found in the README.w64-bin.txt file included in the archive. Installation ============ Installer --------- Run the hamlib-w64-*.exe and follow the on-screen prompts and set PATH environment variable as detailed in README.w64-bin.txt. ZIP archive ----------- Installation consists of uzipping the archive in a convenient location (C:\Program Files is a reasonable choice) on your W64 system (MS Windows NT 4.0 and later--NOT Windows 9x-Windows ME) and setting the PATH environment variable as detailed in README.w64-bin.txt. It should be possible to have multiple versions of Hamlib installed at once. Simply edit the PATH to include the version you wish to use. Usage ===== These DLLs should work with any W64 program built against a prior Hamlib-1.2.x version without needing to be recompiled. This should allow testing by editing the PATH environment variable to the installed snapshot version and then (re)starting the program. As the W64 version of Fldigi includes a statically compiled (included in the Fldigi executable) version of Hamlib-1.2.12, an installation of this archive will be ignored by Fldigi. Hopefully, a future version of Fldigi will be made available that uses the Hamlib shared libraries so that it can be used with later versions of Hamlib on W64. Documentation ============= HTML copies of the Unix manual pages for the included Hamlib utilities along with a draft of the Hamlib manual are included in the doc/ directory of the archive. Hamlib API information may be found at http://www.hamlib.org Have fun and please report bugs to the hamlib-developer@lists.sourceforge.net mailing list. 73, Nate, N0NB
